I’ve had a few requests for a list of things I plan to bring to the hospital for this 2nd baby’s labor & delivery. I’ve edited it a bit from my hospital checklist 2 years ago when we had Myler. Some things are the same, & I have added or taken away others that weren’t needed or that I felt were missing the first time. The most important things to me are underlined.
Paperwork:
- Copies of birth plan (see mine at the bottom of this post)
- Insurance card
Clothing:
- Sports bra for labor (will plan on wearing this TO the hospital)
- Warm socks
- Pajama pants/shorts
- Comfy underwear (I didn’t underline this because the hospital gives you *really cute* underwear)
- Comfy outfit to leave hospital in // easy access to nurse
- Leggings, comfy shoes, baggy t-shirt, & zip up hoodie/cardigan
Toiletries:
- Body wash (the items not underlined here are because the hospital will have some or it’s not super important to me)
- Ponytail holders & bobby pins
- Toothbrush, toothpaste, floss
- Deodorant
- Chapstick
- Shampoo & conditioner
- Dry shampoo
- Hairspray
- Comb & brush
- Face wash & face lotion
- Make-up remover wipes
- Make-up
- Hair extensions (hopefully I have time to put them in before going to the hospital!)
Breastfeeding:
- Nipple cream (sooo happy I brought my own last time THIS is the brand I love)
- Nursing bra & tank top
- Nursing pads // just a few as I didn’t start leaking until I got home from the hospital with Myler
- Boppy
Postpartum Care:
- Magnesium powder (here’s the kind I love) & prune juice (I won’t bring this to the hospital, but I plan to have some ready for when I get home – you should too!!)
For Myler:
- Gift from baby brother (we will probably have it ready to go, but will have someone else bring it after he is born)
- Toys to play with
Essential Oils & Natural Remedies:
- Essential oils in carry case
- Oil diffuser
Food:
- Nut or protein bars (food that I don’t pack for labor, I will have friends & family bring me after if needed)
- Lara bars or energy balls
- Clear Gatorade (for hydration during labor & also great for nursing)
- Snacks for middle of the night hunger
- Flamin’ Hot Cheetos per hubby’s request :)
Technology:
- Camera & lenses
- Camera charger
- GoPro & charger
- SD cards
- Laptop & charger
- iPhone chargers
Other:
- Pillow/blankets for hubby
- Cooler for placenta
- Ziploc bag for ice for placenta
- Cash for placenta pick up
- Journal
For Baby:
- Newborn clothing
- 2 swaddles/blankets (the hospital has them, but they are not as soft as ones I have)
- 2 “going home” outfits // 2 sizes
- 1 long sleeve onesie
- Diaper bag
- Car seat
- Baby nail clippers
- Dock a Tot
My husband made a similar birth plan when we had our son, Myler. You can look at that HERE. My plans haven’t really changed too much, just the baby! I also have marked out his name & some personal decisions we have made. I found the idea for the birth plan from Mama Natural. There are some things I did not include on my birth plan simply because our hospital already does it as routine, so I didn’t want the plan to be overwhelming. Some of those things are skin-to-skin immediately, delayed cord clamping, labor in the tub, etc.
