We have been in our first home for a few months now, but the first two months we were traveling so much that we barely had any time to decorate. The times we were home, we were furniture shopping for all the furniture in our home. Yes, ALL! We had not one piece of furniture!! We decided not to paint anything because the walls are neutral enough to live with for now. They are a tan/beige color that makes the home look very nice, but one day I would love to change all the walls to match my personality & taste. For now, we will leave the beige & tackle each room one-by-one. We started with the dining room. Here is the BEFORE picture:
Here was my color inspiration for the dining room:
And this is what it looks like NOW:
The space is small already, so going with a darker color was a risk. We decided to leave that one indented block tan to be a little unique. I LOVE my antique gallery wall on the left. I bought the prints from an artist on Etsy & the frames are from Home Goods, Ikea, & somewhere else I can’t remember. Our dining table is from World Market, & the chairs are from Ikea. I am very happy with our wall, however I would’ve liked it to be a little more green than blue. The first coat color came out perfect because of the tan we painted over, but our walls are so textured & bumpy, it required a 2nd coat which turned it a little bluer. Also, now that we know how textured our walls are, we will need to freehand the paint on the edges because our tape did not hold up very well. Thankfully you can’t see the bleeding that occurred in the photo, but we do need to fix it soon. Overall, Griffin & I are extremely happy with our dining room!!
Fun fact about our dining room. Our home didn’t have any “real” area for a dining table. My guess is that it was literally in the hallway between the kitchen & living room. This little nook area used to be the walk-in closet for the master bedroom. The wall with the tan box & floral decor is where the door was from the bedroom to the closet. Hopefully this helps…
Also, we used Zero VOC paint which is as toxin-free as you can get with paint now days. It was a little extra in cost, but NO PAINT SMELL!! Hip hip hooray because paint smells give me headaches.
I hope you enjoyed this first home tour!!
I love the color and your table! It looks so great!
