Cabin Projects

Before I show you the finished cabin, I wanted to give a tutorial called “Painting Wood for Dummies.” I literally had no idea how to paint furniture the correct way. There is so much to think about: color, type of paint, paint brushes, finishes, sanding, etc. Someone I know helped me with these projects & gave me some very helpful tips. Here are some things to keep in mind:

Finished wood surfaces need primer
Use coarse sand paper to sand the finish off the wood so that the paint sticks better
Use satin paint instead of matte; matte will become dirty & dusty a lot quicker
If you want to distress after painting, use a gentle sand paper
Use a soft roller, not a brush or sponge roller; brushes leave streaks

Ok, now that we know all of that, we can begin. Here are the tables before.

I first took the tables apart & removed the handles from the drawers.
Next step was sanding them down… a lot! I probably should’ve sanded them more than I did so that the paint stayed better, but they still turned out great. After sanding, you can prime. I used a sponge roller brush for priming because it didn’t matter to me if the priming was perfect.
After the primer dries, you can begin painting!
This process is easy & fun, but also takes a while. I had to do 3 coats of paint until I couldn’t see anymore brown. The paint took a couple hours to dry in between.

I hope I helped those who were paint-illiterate like me! Stay tuned for the finished product as well as another DIY project for dining room chairs!!
